The University of Memphis Tigers have been officially welcomed to the BIG EAST Conference over Times Square in Manhattan, New York City.
This billboard now sits over Time Square on American Eagle Outfitters where thousands are reading the words “Memphis Tigers… Welcome to the Big East.”
The University of Memphis will be joining the Big East for all sports beginning in 2013, they recently announced.
The move to the Big East Conference comes at an initial cost of $6 million to $8 million but the Big East position could possibly bring in an estimated $10 million in extra annual revenue for the University of Memphis, generated through the Big East’s television contracts.
If all goes as planned, the University of Memphis Tigers could be receiving regular national viewing on ESPN, starting in the 2013 basketball season.
